Over the weekend I attended Fiction to Film, Writing Across Platforms, a writer’s conference in Hubbards, Nova Scotia. It was presented by the Hubbards Writers Society and Women in Film and Television Atlantic.
The conference ran from 9am until 4pm on Saturday and was an amazing day of workshops on topics related to writing, author brand, publishing, and pitching your novel.
There was a wonderful line up of guest speakers including:
Lesley Crowe – a local author whose first novel was made into a movie
Aletha Spiridon Hopson from Entangled Publishing
Dan Woods from Draft 2 Digital
George Elliott Clarke – Canada’s Parliamentary Poet Laureate
Listen-up Audio Books
Tawny Stokes from Designated Pitcher
A Panel speaking on Building your Brand which included Julianne MacLean as well as others.
The workshops were amazing and before I knew it the clock was showing 4pm.
Some of the attendees and presenters continued on to dinner at the famous Shore Club. This is the 80th year for lobster suppers in Hubbards and the 70th year the Shore Club has been running from the same building. The food was wonderful as was the company.
It truly was a remarkable day. I learned invaluable information, networked with amazing people, and was treated to marvelous food both at lunch, which was catered and at dinner. I was disappointed when we received our bills after dinner. It meant the day was drawing to a close, a day so incredible I didn’t want it to end.
